Batad is a village which is famous for its amphitheater-like terraces rising to the mountain tops. It is about sixteen kilometers from the hotel but the distance can be shortened twelve km by taking a jeepney part way. Still, getting to Batad requires hiking over a step ridge into the bowl-shaped valley.

The walk to Batad will take about two hours or depending on your fitness. At the top there is a place to rest and to have a drink. You need a wide brimmed hat, effective sunscreen and an umbrella for sun or rain. There are lots of children around. There are lots of steps and lots of different ways to go, so do take a guide.

There are many places to stay in Batad. A guide is essential for traversing the rice fields and village, which has no roads, so you must walk through the gardens and along the walls of the residences. With a local person leading you, the socially appropriate behavior and manners will make your presence less obstructive. Flashing around with a camera may not be suitable in the village, but the guide will be your best bet for advice on this.
