Travel Sites

This is an exciting period for people to travel an as there are now very few inaccessible places on this planet. Fortunately, there isn’t a corner of the earth that doesn’t have a travel site dedicated to it so it is easy obtaining information on the internet. Many people use the internet now to plan even complex travel plans, never seeing a travel agent. The main problem is the convenience of it all and the huge savings that can be found using the internet.

This ease doesn’t always hold true however, and I have never been one to trust my entire vacation to a computerized travel site; it just seems a bit too strange to me. I much prefer to deal with someone I can see and touch, that’s why I still use my travel agent and I also know they have a real office that I can visit. My travel agent is also used to me changing my travel plans and knows that I will complain if something is not right. I have never found it easy dealing with travel sites especially when I want to have a discussion with someone before I make a decision on something; plus on the very rare occasion you manage to get through to a support line, they are not as helpful as someone sitting in front of you.

Even if you are lucky enough to talk to a person, how do you know they are telling you the truth about the situation? With a travel agent they are real and I can always go back to them and clarify points especially if something goes wrong. A best friend of mine only books her vacations on travel sites and often she’ll book a last minute vacation that a travel site is offering which is one huge advantage of using a travel site. Admittedly, she has save a small fortune this way as she will just look at the sites and be patient until the right vacation comes up at the right price.

I have to say that I envy here but she has an understanding company that is far more flexible than mine which require more notice for a vacation. Using a travel site does have other advantages as well because while you can save money on the vacation itself, there are also savings to be made on additional excursions and trips as well if pre-booked. Although I actually spend time with my travel agent, I do actually carry out a great deal of research on prospective locations before I make up my mind. I take that information and then see a travel agent because at least I know that if my vacation turns out to be a nightmare, I have someone to come back and yell at.

Airfare Deals

Many frequent flyers appear to be conversing more about airfare deals and getting the best price at the best possible time to travel. The cost of tickets varies considerably in different parts of the World, but it’s possible to obtain a flight for far less than the regular amount, with some research and assistance from a good travel agent.

A key factor in getting a good deal is the ability to be flexible. If you are prepared to be flexible on the day and time of year when you travel, you can nearly always have a cheap seat. Airlines will slot people into empty seats to save money, so if you’re willing to modify your dates to suit their goal, you will benefit also. A hefty cancellation fee will be charged against you by many airlines, if after you have booked your flight, you switch the date. The other point about being flexible when looking at flights is that if you want to change or cancel your flights without incurring a charge, you will most likely have to pay for the expensive full fare.

The frequent flyer usually makes the biggest gains in the competitive world of airlines and airfare deals. Regular travelers are more likely to benefit from frequent flyer programs initiated by airlines. Airline passengers earn air miles or bonuses whenever they ride with a certain carrier and redeem for free tickets or for some other award. Fierce competition has seen several airlines adopt the design or to unite with other airlines; several hotels are following the airlines’ path.

A well-known source for airfare deals is on the internet. People should watch out for internet sites specializing in sales of discounted airline tickets, they could be legitimate but it is better to be wary and book with better known discount agents. The problem is that people often have a hard time in confirming the legitimacy of these sites before they are committed to making a payment. Never expect email contact as the only avenue for assessing an agent’s knowledge of the airline industry, visit the office and if that’s not possible, make a call and talk directly with the agent. Ask as many questions as possible and find out any likely snags about their ticket deals, such as a stopover to an unattractive part of the world. Learn exactly which airline you are flying with because that is important to know.

Airfare deals and options are opening up daily with new destinations and more flexible rates. If you are careful, flexible and well-researched, you should find little in the way of getting to the destination you desire - eventually.

These days we all travel more on our yearly vacations, some more than others while the really adventurous like to travel as far away from where they live as they can. Fortunately, there isn’t a corner of the earth that doesn’t have a travel site dedicated to it so it is easy obtaining information on the internet. Not only this but many people have given up going to a travel agent altogether (unless they are after a brochure) and make all their travel, car hire and accommodation arrangements online. The main problem is the convenience of it all and the huge savings that can be found using the internet.

There is obviously a great deal of trust required to use the internet this way as often the companies you deal with have never been anything else but an internet based business. I much prefer to deal with someone I can see and touch, that‘s why I still use my travel agent and I also know they have a real office that I can visit. There always seems to be much more flexibility with a travel agent and you are able to ask for more details and change your mind with much more ease. The more maddening problem with travel sites arranged vacation is when there is a complaint about some aspect of it; this is the part that lets the whole system down as talking to a human being is not easy, and if you do actually manage to speak to someone, do have any idea where they are?

If you do speak to someone, they may just tell you what you want to hear which is easy and what are the chances you will be able to find them? For peace of mind I like to use my travel agent and I don’t mind if it takes much longer to book the vacation or if the cost is higher because I know I can always speak to them about anything that isn’t right. Although I do know someone who waits for the last minute cancellations to come up on travel sites and books them every time, saving a good deal of money. By browsing online she has made some amazing savings by just waiting until the last possible minute to book the vacation.

I have to say that I envy here but she has an understanding company that is far more flexible than mine which require more notice for a vacation. Using a travel site does have other advantages as well because while you can save money on the vacation itself, there are also savings to be made on additional excursions and trips as well if pre-booked. Now I know I said that I book my vacation using a real travel agent but that doesn’t mean I do not take advantage of the internet to carry out research on my chosen destination first. It may not be fair on my travel agent but at least I know if something goes wrong, I will have someone to complain to on my return.
